White Devil women

The “white devil women” as our parents liked to call the social workers took me into their custody while they looked to put me in a foster family.

After staying 3 weeks in a hotel (supervised) Social services had found me a foster family in Calgary to live with.

The Chan’s were a very nice Asian couple who treated me well. For the first time in my life I was treated like a person and not an animal. The Chan’s encouraged me in school and helped me learn about my indigenous ancestry. They said, “It was very important to know where you come from”.

I flourished with them, I finished high school and took a part time job as a mechanic at a little garage called Jimmy’s Fix It.

Lil Jimmy was a good boss and friend. He would let me take the shop truck from time to time to do errands or just go for a drive… as long as I put gas in it!
